Can it be done?? If at all possible I want to just slip through the front. More easier for me… Any input is very much appreciated!
BUMP… hope some can answer this for you. wonder if flat backs work better, inserting from the front?
Thanks Nancy! Your guess is as good as mine on the flatbacks! This would be my first open eyed doll and first toddler for a matter of fact so I honestly don’t know. I’ve only made one other doll.
when in doubt, till you hear otherwise, don’t do it. I think the head needs to be heated first was thinking , do you use a heat lamp for rooting? that would warm and soften his head
Oh I’m not. I haven’t even ordered the kit. I’m waiting to hear to see if I could before going ahead and proceeding. Yes I have a heating lamp.
OH, OK… his vinyl is really thin, so I think the heat lamp would soften enough, but hope someone else answers and confirms it
I’ve inserted eyes through the front - especially in head where the neck hole is small. You have to heat the head to make the sockets pliable and go slowly - forcing it can cause the corner of the eye sockets to tear. Also, if you are using poly-glass/acrylic eyes remember that the edges are sharp and can scratch the paint when the kit is warm.
Just put eyes in my Liam from the back, the eye opening is too small to insert them from the front, I used 24mm they say you can use 22mm but the larger eye looks better.
I used 24mm on my Liam too. I wouldn’t try to insert them from the front. Too risky. If you’re going to do it make sure you heat the head first. Good luck.
